Day 1: Saturday, May 19 – Arrive in Lisbon

I selected a cute old European hotel with historical significance. It’s quite lovely and features modern amenities like private bathrooms and flush toilets. As everyone will probably be arriving in the morning European time, your fee includes a stop at the local Pastelaria for a fabulous pastry and probably much-needed espresso. I will show you some amazing sites in the area (Real Principe, and the breathtaking views of the Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara ). During these interpretive tours, I will share historical anecdotes about Portuguese culture.

Lunch will be at a fun open restaurant/market called Time Out. We will take the train to Cascais, a lovely seaside suburb of Lisbon with interesting architecture, fresh ocean breezes and beautiful views.

Dinner (included).

Day 2: Sunday, May 20th – Lisbon/Sintra

Day two starts with a stop at a local Pastelaria (included in the fee) for pastries, coffee or tea. Afterward we will hop aboard the metro to Terriero Do Paco my personal favorite Lisbon neighborhood. In the Alfalma area wander around Castelo de Sao Jorge or St. George’s castle.  (Castle admission is included in your fee)

Lunch is on your own, there are abundant restaurants and open-air cafes to choose from in the area.

Following lunch, we will take the train to Sintra where we will be staying in a lovely historic hotel that looks as though pulled from a fairy tale.

Dinner (included).

Day 6, May 24th: Obidos

Cobbled streets and traditional painted houses in a compact area surrounded by city walls make Obidos one of the most picturesque destinations in Portugal. Obidos features an exquisitely tiled city gate, Porta da Vila and a regional cherry liqueur called Ginja de Obidos which is served in chocolate cups!

We will stay at one of the coolest hotels I’ve ever seen that crossed old world with new world eco-chic to create an excellent experience.

Day 7 & 8, May 25th & 26th: Espinho/Porto

Espinho is a lovely seaside community. Once you have spent time in Portugal you will be wowed and inspired by the tile work that is every where in this country. I have set up the opportunity for you to learn about and make a beautiful tile project of your own. You will also be treated to an authentic Portuguese meal made at the guest house.

She has an easy going nature, loves to laugh, and has the gift of making everyone feel that they belong to her ‘tribe,’ no matter their personality or station in life. We all loved to be entertained by her animated stories and situations she got herself into. She has inspired me to expand my geographic comfort zone.
